The gay (I:\) drive.

January 30, 2007

Some of you attending QMC may have wondered why you couldn’t save to your I:\ drive at certain periods of time within the last lesson today. Well…two of those times were my fault. I logged on today to find that there was only ~600mb of storage left for all the students, so naturally – using a copy of Breaking Benjamin’s Phobia 15 times over – I filled it up, just to see if it could be done. I later removed said music.

A screenshot of my shenanigans as viewed on Joe’s PC can be found here

Problem was, later on in the lesson, the number of students throughout the college saving their work etc filled the I:\ drive up totally without my intervention. This resulted in a mass deletion of work from all students in the classroom.

There is a serious point to this post however, started when my teacher wondered half-way through the lesson “Why have all my pictures gone?”. We then went to the Art directoy and watched as folders such as “Art 2005″ and “Kates work” were deleted. Shame really, as “Kate” had some good photos in there. I’m guessing the IT “support” staff started bricking themselves and started holding down the delete button.

This is a warning to all art students, music students and students with big-ass files. Backup. I don’t think they’re going to do it for recent files, but just be warned.

Sony…

January 26, 2007

I was on Digg and found a story which adds to the stupidity of Sony.

Basically, someone in their marketing department thought “Hey I know I’ll use a really cool screenshot of a car to advertise Gran Turismo 4 for the PSP!”

Unfortunately, instead of using a screenshot of the actual game, they decided to use one from Project Gotham Racing 3 instead. The main problem with this – for those of you who don’t know – is that it’s only on the Xbox 360. See the fault there?

I hope Microsoft catch onto this and use this as a good advertisement…something along the lines of “See? even Sony thinks it’s a good game!”

Sony really need to buck up their ideas because at the moment they really do seem like fucktards.

Unfortunatly Sony have removed the said screenshot, but you can see it here and the official PGR3 image here

Saw this floating around the interweb and thought I might as well. In all honesty, I’m suprised. First impressions is that it’s a lot better than Under the Cork Tree. I’ll update this as I listen more.

Pete Wentz is still a huge sausage jockey though.

Privileges/Respect

December 27, 2006

Just a quick one. If I can’t find any reason as to why I should openly give you more respect or extra privileges than I would to other people, I’m not going to. If you have clearly given something positive to my friends or close community, then by all means I shall. People who fall under this category may be good musicians, people with Knighthoods given for a valid reason, or any genuinly kind people.

Any other people i.e. Random old and often angry people (yes it may seem like I have a personal vendetta against old people but I really don’t), or Disabled people who actively use their disability as an excuse – especially those who ram into my heel and then angrily tell me to get out the way, when I wasn’t in the way in the first place…especially when there was tons of room (this event took place on the bottom floor of festival place outside HMV and I was sitting down on one of the benches for goodness sake) – then I don’t honestly see why I should. You don’t do the same to me, so why should I to you?

I’ve asked my mum about this and she replied with “Well you should just give them more respect”. When I questioned this she couldn’t find a valid reason as to why we should. This has made me reach the conclusion that the only reason we give extra respect to old/disabled people is because society deems it necessary. I for one think we should go slightly communistic and give everyone the same equal amount of respect. That way it’s more fair to the people who actually deserve it.

Old People.

November 30, 2006

(Note: I do not mean every single old person, just those who don’t have a noticeable purpose i.e. the town-going ones.)

Several things happened today, including an argument between two people that was totally unnecessary and (according to one particular person) that Darwin – who we all previously assumed had died due to the increasing number of genuinely stupid people – is in fact alive and well. All of these events I could have easily blogged about, but whether it was down to this being the last event that happened before I got to the PC, or that it’s a point that I’ve discussed with many people, I’ve decided to blog about whether there is actually a point in letting yourself become old.

I was at the bus station waiting for the bus after another disappointing session at the Youth Cafe and was talking to a friend. Naturally my attention was diverted from the bus to her, and so when the bus finally came I said my goodbyes and ended up being almost last in line. I was therefore demoted to either standing up, or sitting in the side seats (which I don’t mind, as I usually have less chance of a complete tit sitting next to me).

Just before the bus was due to part, a group of old people decided to stop the bus and get on, regardless of whether there was enough space to accompany all of them or not. With the rest of the bus full up, the leader of the group chose to sit next to me after a hesitation and of course the others grouped around her…and inevitably me.

My annoyance levels were already high enough after forgetting to attend a couple of events planned for the day; however it seemed they were only going to increase…especially when one of them seemed completely oblivious to the fact that buses tend to go round corners, and couldn’t understand why she was bouncing off every solid surface (including my left knee at various times) like a pinball.

Old people seem to do a few routine things, one of which being complain about every single thing it’s possible to complain about. Today’s bitching was about bus services. I sat there with an expressionless look on my face , which quickly changed to laughter when one of the old ladies advertised the new bus service Basingstoke is getting (the Jazz buses on certain routes) by going “Have you heard about that new Jizz service we’re going to get?). It was a long hearty laugh, and much needed.

Unfortunately, it did little to ease the situation and after looking at me with a mixture of confusion and scorn, they continued to complain about things.

As I said at the beginning, I’m not saying every single person should be shot when they reach a certain age, I’m just saying that people who do nothing but travel to places to complain about them should re-evaluate their lives and decided what’s best. I’ve said to people that I will shoot myself before I reach the stage where it’s a struggle to get to the toilet in time before I piss myself, and I’d rather not suffer that indignity. However I’m sure when I grow up I’ll look back and realise I was being perhaps a little too mocking towards others in my early years.

What do other people think?

Albums – November Edition.

November 20, 2006

(+44) – When Your Heart Stops Beating. Very under-rated band. This is a band formed by Mark and Travis from blink-182 (currently on indefinite hiatus…grr). I seriously recommend this band, and it represents a good departure from blink.

Bowling For Soup – The Great Burrito Extortion Case. Another good album. Carries the same format as the other BFS albums, which is a good thing :) Recommended if you like BFS.

Oasis – Stop the Clocks. I would say it’s a great album, but really it’s full of songs that are on all the other albums :P So if – like me – you have every album, it’s not that amazing a release, but still worth getting if you want every good song they’ve ever made. Needs to have Whatever on though to be honest.

Rise Against – Siren Song of the Counter Culture. I’ll get bored of this eventually :P

Tenacious D – The Pick of Destiny. Good album, not as good as their debut album though. Also, a bit weird if you’ve never watched the movie, as some songs may not make sense.

Average. I prefer the old-look band…it sounds and looks like they don’t really know which direction they’re going in.

Still, as with every album there are some good songs, although some aren’t so good.

I’m sticking with The Ataris :)

Albums.

October 16, 2006

Yeah I have a combination of blogger’s block and boredom, so here’s a list of the best albums I’ve been listening to recently (no particular order).

The Feeling - Twelve Stops and Home

In Flames – Come Clarity

Rise Against – Siren Song of the Counter Culture

Shinedown – Leave a Whisper

Shinedown – Us and Them

In Flames - Whoracle

Jet – Shine On

Guns N’ Roses –  Appetite for Destruction

That’s about it for the moment.

The Ataris – so long, astoria. Such a good album :) Glad I found it again.

Didn’t work. Not compatible with WordPress apparently. Sorry to Dave especially.

Band of Brothers

September 21, 2006

Wow…I’ve just finished watching the mini-series after my friend Dave let me borrow it. I have to say, it’s amazing. If anyone out there hasn’t seen it and likes War films, I recommend it.

Even if you aren’t a fan of the WWII genre, it’s one of the best directed movies I’ve ever seen.
